Strangely enough I don't actually remember much of my childhood, I don't think anything bad happened in it or anything, but memories of people and events seem to fade, but places seem to remain. I can usually remember if I've been somewhere if I'm standing in it, but if I met someone before and haven't talked or thought about them since I don't remember their faces at all. Kinda weird I guess... anyway...

I was one of those kids that the schools should have put in Gifted and Talented or accelerated courses but chose not to for some reason. At the age of 9 I was reading at the college level and was and have been on a higher intellectual plane than my peers for most of my life. I don't really see eye to eye with many people my age. By the time I hit middle school they finally put me in accelerated courses for things that click with me, science and writing, and I was able to excel.

I never really had that many friends. I can't really remember in my history considering more than two or three people at a time as close friends. I have many people that I know and may hang out with in a group setting, but it takes a lot for someone to become a friend and I've been that way as long as I can remember. That kind of made me a bit of a loner and I'm pretty sure people have always thought I was weird, but the usual reaction is to ignore me. Probably, because I never rose to the occassion when they were trying to tease me. I wasn't interested in playing their game and therefore they got bored with me really fast.

I always read a lot, I loved science fiction and fantasy as a child and still do. I also read a lot of animal books. I'm pretty sure I read through field guides back in the day. Really gives me an edge as a environmental educator. Sometimes I feel like a walking encyclopedia...

I was outside a lot as a child. I was kind of territorial about my space. When my family lived in California we had an orange tree in our backyard that I loved to climb in. I actually took a lot of my toys and stuff into the tree one day and my mother was terrified because she couldn't find me. When she finally did find me, I was reading my book up in the tree. I was always really still, when I was hanging out in and under trees I had wild birds land on me several times. When my family moved to Colorado I spent a lot of time exploring the greenspace near our family home. I was always really good at animal identification ever since I was little. I've been told by my aunt that I was able to identify specific species of bird when I was five. Since I teach five year olds about nature now I can see how unique that is.

Yeah... I'm going to stop talking now so this post doesn't go on forever...
