Basic Energy Manipulation and Magick Excercises (Part One)
An absolutely huge subject
|
 |
|
As promised. It's a little rough around the edges, typos and the like, and only part one, but, I thought maybe it would be useful for people. Part Two might be a while (the offline life is suddenly gotten real busy as of late), but there's more coming.
Basic energy manipulation and magickal excercises - Part One
The concept "Where attension goes, energy flows" is a relatively prolific concept.
(I first came across it in the book "The Celestine Prophecy", but it's pretty much everywhere to one degree or another.)
So this means that if you think about someone, your attension is flowing energy at that person. The kinds of energy flowing in that persons direction depends on your emotions at the time and what it is you are thinking about that person.
If the person you're thinking of has made you angry and you're thinking angry thoughts about them, that is just the sort of energy you're sending them, angry hateful energy.
For most people, thinking hateful thoughts about someone doesn't really seem to affect that person (unless they're sensitive to energy), this is because in the beginning you don't usually have that much energy at your disposal. But once you learn to instinctively wield high levels of energy, this practise of negative thoughts about people can actually harm that person. So you might want to learn discipline and meditation to properly channel your emotions so that they do not harm another unintentionally.
So I would highly recommend anyone starting out to invest a bit of time every day to calming themselves and meditating to help develop a sense of discipline. This kind of discipline and control can also be developed by spiritual based martial arts, repeatative sports (swimming lanes really worked for me), meditative sports such as Yoga and Tai Chi, or learning about self hypnosis. I generally have an attension span the length of a goldfish, so trying to learn to just sit down and meditate was extremely hard for me, and I only really got any good progress after Chi Gong (Tai Chi is a form of Chi Gong), and Yoga. So, I highly recommend some kind of physical meditation for those of us with a ten second attension span!
A base medium is needed for learning energy manipulation
Visualisation, bizarely enough, is one way of accessing your natural ability to manipulate energy and do magick.
Applying the "where attension goes, energy flows" concept with visualisation is a pretty short leap. If you focus on the image of gold divine light surrounding you in a warm safe glow, and really see it and feel it, the energy flows towards this end.
Aside from joining a coven or being indoctrinated into an esoteric tradition, visualisation is one of the easiest ways of learning basic energy manipulation and magick that I've found.
So, what is visualisation you ask?
This is the ability to make as real as possible something inside your head. Basically, it's a form of directed mental fantasy. If you're not able to imagine things vividly in your mind, most of these exercises aren't going to help you, so practise practise practise!
Some exercises:
Cleansing of your aura and Chakra
Firstly, get a relatively good image in your head of what your aura and chakra system might look like. (I'll see if I can post some basic images here later.) Basic Chakra System picture
Basic idea of your energy system (at least the physical humanish side of it):
Chakras are like bright coloured wormhole tunnel entries into and out of your body, they can look like fibrous tunnels, thickly condensed. You have the basic seven on the body. The root chakra, bright red, comes out of the base of your spine down towards your feet, Sacral chakra is orange, it's basically for women where you get period pain, and kind of in the pubic hair above your bits on a man, solar plexus chakra, yellow, is basically where most people feel hungry, find the bottom of your ribs in the center (your zyphoid process or the base of your sternum), and it's either just below or very near in the center of that area, heart chakra, green, almost exactly where you feel emotional pain and pretty much where your heart is, throat chakra, blue, is pretty much where your voice box is, third eye chakra, purple, is where it says it is, either just above and between your eyebrows or the centre of your brow, crown chakra, violet (or colourless), imagine putting a crown on your head level with the top of your head, and that's it. Each chakra is linked up the body by what are sometimes called "meridian lines", these are basically connecting lines of energy between the chakras, and the main one basically follows your spine and central nervous system. So, that's a wordy basic description of your energy system. Oh, I forgot two more main chakras that are sometimes left out of many systems, your Earth Chakra, which, is basically between your feet (doesn't seem to have a specific colour), and your Transpersonal Chakra, this one is located by lifting one hand palm up above your crown chakra, where your hand sits comfortably above your head is about where the Transpersonal Chakra is, this is usually thought to be gold or silver or colourless.
So, cleansing...
Number one: Always start at your root chakra, if you go top to bottom you'll out balance your system, I don't know why, but whenever I or one of my old students used to start by going down the body chakras the energy systems would always end up a bit wonky. So, if possible, just take my word for it that it's best to start by going up the body rather than down it.
Think of your own way of visualising the root chakra. You can imagine a bright red cone of dense spining fibers, you can imagine a cave painted all red, a red flower, whatever comes to you. I tend to just imagine the colour and tell myself it's the root chakra. Generally, if you have trouble visualising the colour (and don't normally have trouble with seeing colour in your head) that means that that chakra needs cleansing.
Most people recommend cleansing a chakra with it's own colour, so, with the root chakra you keep "painting" whatever you're seeing in your head the right colour, hold in your mind that yourre cleaning your chakra so that it can be that really vivid neat red that it should be. What tends to happen is that once the chakra is cleaned you can fully visualise that chakra being red without any trouble.
Then you move onto the next chakra. And do the same thing. Imagine the imagry you've chosen, see the colour and know that it represents your real chakra, then keep making that thing as completely that colour as you can in your mind until it comes easy.
So you go through the basic rainbow of Chakras, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Violet. And when you've gone up to the crown chakra, go back down again to the red root chakra by going through the other chakras backwards (this maintains balance, and is highly recommended).
Number two: This utilises your healing hand chakras, a little harder to do if you haven't done any energy manipulation at all.
Imagine in your mind that there is a beautiful warm and healing light/energy comming from whichever deity you feel the closest to, flowing over you and through your energy systems, then flowing out through your hands. The hand chakras are basically where the stigmata are in classical catholic lore, but, natural healers may feel the energy flow not only out of the palm of their hands but their entire hands, so don't worry if this isn't typical. Just see in your mind the healing energy from the divine passing over you like water and coming out of the palm side of your hands.
Once that's working (most people feel a warmth coming from their hands, or a feeling of static, some feel a coldness like a breeze or a strange indescribable sensation in their hands, as long as it doesn't hurt it's all good), hold your hands over the area of your chakras, starting from your root chakra.
Now, the root chakra on you is usually a little lower than your hands can reach comfortably, at least without looking terribly dodgy, so if you angle your hands towards your root chakra and imagine the energy travelling to that chakra it will work. So, imagine that lovely healing energy from the divine pouring over your head and body, your shoulders and out of the palms of your hands, then into your chakra to heal, balance and cleanse it.
At this point a lot of people tend to feel restricted to that one chakra until it's clean. Now, I know that doesn't make much sense, but it's as if once you start the energy going into the chakra for that intent your hands don't want to move on to the next one until the first one is clean. If you feel this go with it!! Once the restriction lifts rise your hands a little and flow the nice divine healing energy into the next chakra, and so on. Work you way up your body through the different chakras, channelling that healing divine energy through your hands into your own chakras. (Generally, with this method you don't need to go back down, but you and if you want.)
This also works pretty well as a group or paired excercise, but be careful, make sure you've done it a few times on yourself first, it's not good form to accidently use the wrong type of energy on a friend and screw with their energy.

When viewing this on the articles page, there's a problem with "One)" overlapping the rest of the text in the title. I'll fix that as soon as I have time.

Nanara, I have recently tried your method of "cleansing" my chakras, with some puzzling results. I started with my usual meditation method (I currently use Yoga) and went to the root chakra. My visualization was a Japanese-style gate and I proceded to "paint" it red. However, the closer I got to finishing it, the dizzier I became, until after I had finished I lost complete connection with my meditation. Afterward, when I tried to stand up, my legs would not support me and I had dizziness, headaches, and nausea for the rest of the day. Did I do something wrong? I thought perhaps my weak legs was the result of being in a relaxed state for a while, but the process was only about 30 minutes long. And that still doesn't explain the headaches, etc. I'm still new at this, and I was hoping you'd give this inexperienced one some advice!

That is strange. It sounds like what you ended up doing was either charging that chakra too much, or changing the way it flowed energy-wise. Did you go up the body and then back down again? As in did you finish the cleansing meditation? If you didn't finish it, the headaches could quite easily be the imbalance in energy and charge in the chakras. Chakras tend to function in balance and relation to each other, so if you change the balance in one, you must change the balance in all of them for it to be beneficial.
Try it again, but don't imagine physically painting the fence, just see it as it is, how red is it, the shape etc, and go up the chakras noting in your mind (or on paper) the colours of each chakra gate and the differences in appearance to the other gates, go up, and then when you reach the top and have checked the crown chakra, imagine gentle light healing energy flowing into your meridian lines and chakras down through your crown chakra to your root chakra, but see that the healing energy fills each chakra first before flowing into the next one. Also note any physical or spiritual sensations/experiences whilst you're doing all this.
This exercise should give you a good idea about what is going on for each chakra. The colours, if they're faded or feel wrong will show that there's an imbalance in the energy flow, such as a block or some kind of energetic injury to the chakra, the differences, should describe how well they're functioning etc. Follow your instinct on what differences and colour problems you sense, because essentially a part of you chose to show you the chakras in that way, with those colours and shapes for a reason, so you, somewhere inside your head, knows what they all mean. Any sensations, if you note them might also tell me what may be the problem.
You might just need to change the visualisation to something more instinctually matching for you.

Yes, thank you, Nanara! You were correct, further work has revealed I have imbalances in my chakras, and your advice is helping me fix that. And you are right, visualizing the colors is much easier than physically painting.... Thank you again.

The Celestine Prophecy completely turned my life around when I was 18. And it helped me understand a different way of viewing energy exchange, it's one of my highly recommended books.

I have made this an article again - I assume your recent edit cleared the status. Moderators now have the ability to make posts into articles (it's next to sticky at the bottom) so you shouldn't have that problem if you edit it again.
